KINGFISHER
(2014)

Crickette. You have some heavy stuff you're carrying around with you and so do I. So do we all. Matt's a calypso-cat drummer and I'm blind to myself. J-Sean heaved in too much helium to sing good and Pep and Dave are worshipping donuts in the river where the current is strong. I wish jellyfish could swim in the air. Maybe if they could swim in the air then he'd love you like you imagined him. Maybe we'd all get what we saw at night. Probably not. Well at least its easier to carry heavy things around with all six of us. Six broken hearts are like one good heart. I guess its fine if jellyfish can't swim in the air or that Kingfishers can't fly underwater. Probably best to keep eating our daily bread and make today into some kind of dream.

THE DAM KEEPER (SCORE)
(2013)

Set in a desolate future, one small town's survival is solely due to a large windmill dam that acts as a fan to keep out poisonous clouds. Despite bullying from classmates and an indifferent public, the dam's operator, Pig, works tirelessly to keep the sails spinning in order to protect the town. When a new student, Fox, joins Pig's class, everything begins to change.

Made up of over 8,000 paintings, The Dam Keeper blends traditional hand-drawn animation with lush brushstrokes to bring Kondo and Tsutsumi's celebrated painting-style to life like never before. Directors Robert Kondo and Dice Tsutsumi are known for their art direction on such beloved films as Ice Age, Ratatouille, Monsters University and Toy Story 3.

It received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film at the 87th Academy Awards

CONFETTI by PHOX
(2013)

[Confetti is a video-EP from PHOX, a project where video and audio were recorded simultaneously to create an EP and a film.]

Welcome to the domestic, fantastical reality that is born out of winter hibernation -  textured with the digital peasant chic of midi wonderlands and the hum-drum dusty gold mine that is Midwestern thrift. Forgo your pennies, all your common cents for the tasteless-scrap-turned-folk-art-ballroom-fabulous; blanketing your ballerina dance, broken-hearted banjo strum, ice-screams, tinsel-hoots, late-night clarinet lines and improv-whatevers in theatrical style as they shoot beyond the edge of the cosmos but no further than the living room ceiling.

We began this project as enlightened players but by the end we were computer eyes and winter weight, using beer-stained tripods as walking sticks to cross confetti oceans and brush our teeth in dead movie sets. We ripped apart our fully-grown young until we remembered once again that we must let them be themselves and run into the arms of strangers (aka need this done by Friday thx).

Now we can infinitely ponder our experiment in our cold bones and spring-hopeful skin; remembering the dead trees, the sound of cups on wood, and arguably the best sleepover ever; resulting not in the creation of cinema with a capital C, but something equally precious - the reaching for it.

LIGHTS.ON | APOTHEOSIS
Released December 31st, 2012

Dan Govier writes:

Apotheosis is my attempt at making experimental music that doesn't waste your time. Most of the songs are pretty short and while some of the songs are catchy and - dare I say - poppy, this is not pop music.

I took a break from making music seriously for the last several years. Usually, the way it works is that I get a concept for an album and then I start mapping and fleshing it out. With Apotheosis, it took Zach, my friend who also happens to write and produce music, pointing out to me that some of the songs that I had continued to slowly pump out fit sensibly into a single theme. Most of the work on the album had been done for over a year.

Apotheosis is an instrumental album, but I think you’ll find that even without words the different sounds and feels take you to ponder on certain things. To me, this album is about life, the universe and humankind, and hopefully it comes through. The changes that the world has gone through over the years is what was on my mind while writing these works. The Earth existing for billions of years without human life and the differences in how we live compared with those throughout....read more
